GENERAL
NAME: Concordia Florentina Knight
NICKNAMES: Cor, Cori, Cordi, Di, Dia, whatever. Call her something like "conc" though and you're getting punched.
AGE/DOB: 15 ; December 18
BLOOD STATUS: Half-Blood
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Female ; She/Her
SEXUALITY: Probably straight?
HOMETOWN: Born in León, Mexico - they moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico when she was 11.
CONCEPT: Snarky cheerleader and serious foodie strives to impress.
PHYSICAL
APPEARANCE: Cori definitely enjoys her hats, baggier pants, and tennis shoes. In fact, when she's not in uniform or in a cheer outfit, she's pretty tomboy-ish. She's not into fashion in the same sense most girls are, but that doesn't mean she doesn't take pride in her appearance.
HEIGHT: 5'7"
PB: Seychelle Gabriel
PERSONALITY
LIKES: Music, dancing, movies, television, hanging out, kickbacks, cheer, surprising people, intelligence, excitement, danger, risk, sports, adrenaline, cooking, baking, loud conversations, philosophical debates, playing devil's advocate, food, food, food and - oh, did she mention food yet?
DISLIKES: Misconceptions, miscommunication, judgement, labels, stereotypes and stereotyping, mean girls, people who can't see gray areas, unnecessary punishments, suck ups, people who feel entitled, when someone takes her food without asking, people who stick their fingers in things to "taste" while you're cooking.
PERSONALITY:
When you first meet Concordia, she gives off the impression of someone gruff, unlikable, and aggressive. Once you get past all that she's... well, similar, but with you know. Layers. Concordia is definitely both all the things she likes and hates. She's been one to pass judgement on others from time to time while hating the practice in general. She's definitely argued that something either is or isn't without allowing for the gray-area, and she has definitely been mean a time or two in her life.
However, that's not how she wants to be. Concordia strives to be the best kind of person. Kind, caring, compassionate, understanding, and a good listener. She wants other people to look at her, to remember her, to think of her, and go "Wow, what a good person. I'm so glad I met her." Of course, that's not a possible feat. You'll always have your run ins with people who don't like you, bullies, whatever. You'll always have the opportunity to make an ass of yourself. Cori is no different. She's made an ass of herself plenty of times and will do so in the future. Still, the most important thing about her is that she strives to be better.
In spite of those first impressions and appearances, Concordia actually loves school. She loves Gooseberry. She has a ton of school spirit. She will out school spirit you. Although not the typical type of girl you picture as a cheerleader (which she will lecture you on if you dare mention it), she still loves to cheer. She is not sporty in the sense that she'd be good at Quidditch - or maybe she would, if she wanted that kind of limelight - but she is athletic and has loved cheer since she was a kid. She likes the feeling it gives people, and gives herself.
Competitive by nature like most Coppertale kids, she would never admit to turning everything into a competition - but everything is. "I love you." "Well I love you more!" are the types of things you'd hear out of her mouth. You raised $100 for the cause? She's SO proud of you, she will cheer-lead and praise your efforts to death - while vowing to raise $200. She wants to out do-gooder you, be nicer than you, listen better than you. It's part some weird innate need to compete and be a good person all tumbled into an oddly assembled package.
Though she has some obvious downfalls to her personality, Concordia just wants to be your friend. She wants to help you through the tough times. She wants to make you feel better, do better, be better. Above all, she wants those things for herself. A stern believer in faking it until you make it, Concordia constantly strives to be exactly like all the things she admires about other people - she may not always get there, but she sure as hell tries. And she'll sure as hell apply that to you and do her best to be your motivator.
SKILLS
LANGUAGES SPOKEN: English, French, Spanish, and Italian. Her mother is Italian, and though she did not grow up in Italy, all her immediate relatives did. Her father grew up with a French mother and Mexican father in France, and all three languages were spoken regularly around Cori. English was actually the last language she learned.
PATRONUS: Cori is currently incapable of casting a Patronus.
SKILLS: Concordia is not typically athletic in the traditional sense, but she can bend, twist, jump, run, and do the splits. She's got endless stamina and extremely good balance. She's done cheer, sports, and dance since she was little. She can Salsa, Tango, and Ballroom dance. She did gymnastics, so she can tumble. She can play Football (Soccer) very well. A distinct fear of heights kept her from doing most wizard-type sports.
Although she loves to bake, she's not prolific at it or anything. They never look that great, but they taste pretty good. Cooking is more her style, she enjoys the freedom you get from being able to experiment with food the way you can't with baking, which is too precise for her tastes. Though, that doesn't stop her from obsessively trying to get better at it. Food is big in her family, and she was always cooking with her mother, father, and grandparents. It grew on her, and turned both into something she loves and something she's good at.
HISTORY
FAMILY MEMBERS:
- Adriana Knight née Machi - Mother ; Potioneer
- Saul Knight - Father ; Wizard Spa Owner
HISTORY:
Concordia Knight was a december baby - a little miracle brought to Saul and Adriana who until that point were sure they were not capable of having children. As such, though they were never wealthy, they spoiled their only child in any way they could. Though such an upbringing might have made for one entitled, bratty little girl - Concordia always understood that they worked hard for what they had. Though Léon wasn't the wealthiest city in Mexico, it was certainly better off than some and better off than the places her mother and father had once lived. They weren't rich, but they weren't starving either. Her father did odd jobs, but her mother had always worked with potions rather well and worked her magic to keep a steadier income.
While they weren't rich with money, Concordia felt lucky in so many other ways. Her family was large, and above all else, family was most important to all of them. Her mother, father, and usually one of her grandparents were at the table every night together - proceeded 100% by all cooking together. On Sundays it was a big affair - though Concordia was an only child, she had a ton of family - aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, great aunts and uncles. Everything, and they'd all get together and eat dinner. Holidays were the same. Cori's life was so filled with food and family, it sort of became a passion. There's nothing better than the feeling you get from being full and having good company around. It was through them that her love of cooking turned from a silly and fun family thing, to a hobby, to a passion.
Still, it was a point of contention. Though her parents loved cooking as well, they had differing ideas on whether or not that could be a career path for their only daughter. A viable career path. Both her parents were hot heads and competitive, often bickering about her future. Concordia was much the same - arguing her point and passions to her parents. She would never pick fights with the other children, but would adamantly and aggressively be peacekeeper, striving to do better, showing off. She humbled herself a lot over the years but her tenacity and willingness to do whatever it took to succeed and be the most well loved and well liked never really faded - and it was part of the reason they left Mexico entirely. Though her education at Coyopamienzo was great, they wanted more for their only daughter. Her parents, wanting to provide a life of limitless opportunity to her and show her cooking wasn't the only way she could make a living, decided their time in Mexico was over and ventured off to start their own business in Truth and Consequences, New Mexico.
The "Spa Town," labeled as such because of it's hot springs and high levels of tourism, was a fantastic opportunity for the Knight family. Unfortunately for Cori, they didn't take her with them - it was impossible to move her from Coyopamienzo without switching schools, and they wanted her to go to Ilvermorny when she turned 11 - so, three years later she moved with them to T or C. Their start was rocky, but with a little magic and passing off some magical remedies as "herbal remedies" and "essential oils" and the like, what first started as a small day-spa quickly turned into a much larger and well-received spa-getaway for them - for muggles and wizards alike. Her education there was great, but Cori and her parents were still striving for the best. Able to afford to do so, and with Cori's excellence in Herbology and Potion-making, as well as her community service through the Girl Scouts (cleaning up parks, helping the elderly, etc) she was a prime candidate for Gooseberry.
Though not excited to leave her parents again, who she was very close with - the adventure and ability to tackle a new school, learn more, and create new bonds with a whole new set of students was enticing enough to teeter Cori's feelings on changing schools more towards positive than negative. Although her first year at Gooseberry was filled with a lot of... weird things, that hasn't deterred her at all from wanting to go back, conquer the school, and work hard to make her family proud.
She's even more excited for year two (though her parents were admittedly less enthusiastic about her going back). The education has been amazing - and through the school she's found an even bigger interest in Potions and food. The teacher's really inspired her - her natural love of food and cooking, nurtured by her grandmother and father, and her proficiency with
SCHOOL
YEAR: Sophomore
HOUSE: Coppertale ; Formerly a Horned Serpent (Ilvermorny) and before that, a Tabai (Coyopamienzo)
SORTING: Although her desire to be a peacekeeper and do-gooder would make her a great Ribbonfin, as well as her desire to fun and friendships leaning towards Azurcrest, it was her competitive spirit, drive, confidence, and extroverted personality that put her in Coppertale. She had great conversations with all the houses beforehand, wanting to make the best decision, and Coppertale's unrelenting advocacy for itself really caught Cori's attention and ultimately what got her to choose that one. It took an unnecessarily long amount of time. Not due to indecision, but her endless questions and counter-points were too fun to end quickly.
WAND: 7 1/4 inches, Walnut, Dragon heartstring - Supple
FAMILIAR: A mouse named Peanut
CLASSES: Charms, Herbology, Magical Rudiments, Outdoor Education, Potions, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts
ADVANCED STUDY: Muggle Technology. Well, the benefits are of course the first draw (yay, internet!) but there's more to her desire than that. Though she's on the path to become a potioneer, restaurant owner, whatever - she wants to cater to muggles as well as wizards. That takes learning some muggle-tech, and becoming familiar with and comfortable with how to use many of the machines shop owners run their businesses on.
SENIOR PROJECT: She wants to develop a line of potions you can eat instead of drink. Skele-grow in cookies, etc - without compromising the food or the potion.
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: She does incredibly well in school. Though classes like Transfiguration are far more difficult for her to grasp and excel at (it's her least favorite) she still dedicates herself to it fully and maintains a good grade. Her favorite class is Potions, though Herbology is a close second. She's naturally gifted in Herbology, extremely intuitive with her potion making. Obviously, she loves Magical Rudiments!
EXTRACURRICULARS: Crafting, Duelling & Fencing, Gardening, Outdoor Exploration, and Cheer Squad.
